6 Best Desserts in Andalusia Spain

The origin of many sweets in Andalusia dates back to the Middle Ages, when the region was under Muslim rule. Apart from the beaches and Moorish architecture, Andalusia also has some great desserts to offer for your sweet tooth. If you are looking for some sweet treats post your walking tours in the city or in general, here are the 6 best desserts in Andalusia Spain.

1. Torrijas

Torrijas are very similar to  ‘French Toast’, and are a speciality Easter food in Spain, enjoyed all over the country during this time of year. If you are in Sevilla, look for Torrijada shops and you will find plenty of options.

Here are some of the recommended places for you which I have tried :
Confitería La Campana

Dulcería Manu Jara

Torrijas

2. Borrachuelos

Borrachuelo is a traditional Spanish dessert originating from Málaga. The reason for their name is because they are soaked in wine and anisette (borracho meaning “drunk”).

This is easily available across bakeries in Malaga city centre and there’s no one special place for this to recommend.

3. Malaga Raisin ice cream

The original Malaga ice creams is made with sweet wine and raisins from the province. It’s definitely worth a try when you are in Malaga and walking around the beautiful streets on a sunny day.

Place called Casa Mira in the city centre is one of the best and oldest ice cream shops to try!

4. Pastel Cordobés (Cordoba Cake)

Pastel Cordobés is  sweetened squash jam filling between two layers of puff pastry and topped with sugar and cinnamon. Though the description doesn’t sound very good, but trust me, it’s quite yummy.

There are couple of good cafes which serve the cake and I must say Cordoba cake is bit difficult to find everywhere even in Cordoba.

Here are 2 places I have tried :
El Pastel Cordobés

Veca Cafe

5. Turrón

Turrón is a Mediterranean nougat confection, typically made of honey, sugar, and egg white, with toasted almonds or other nuts. Turrón is usually eaten as a dessert food around Christmas in Spain but it is easily available throughout the year.
You can also take this back to you home and it’s also a good dessert to take back for family, friends or colleagues as a souvenir. There are several places in Malaga, Seville and Granada around the city centre and it’s difficult to miss it since the sellers are always offering Turrón to taste in order to attract customers.

6. Basque Cheesecake

The hugely popular Basque Cheesecake originated in the Basque region of Spain. It’s just called Cheesecake in Spain. There are lot of shops in the cities like Malaga, Granada and Seville which do good cheesecake. The one shop we liked a lot and kept going multiple times in the trip was La tarta de la madre de Cris. It has branches in the cities I mentioned before and trust me it’s really yummy cakes!
